If privacy is your concern, our light filtering curtains work, with a catch. During the day, because it’s bright outside, these curtains provide plenty of privacy. But at night, with a lit bedroom, people may see your silhouettes. Our cotton linings filter light while adding more privacy. Meanwhile, blackout curtains provide 100% privacy. They obscure any silhouettes, and there are soundproof options available to give your home even more privacy.

It depends on which curtain you purchase. Sheer linen curtains block 10% of light. Medium-weight blocks up to 30% of light, and cotton lining blocks up to 40%. If you want to enjoy 100% light blocking, purchase our curtains with a blackout liner. A blackout liner works well for bedrooms, nurseries, or home theaters.

Our sheer curtains are light and are designed to let in the most light possible. Meanwhile, light-filtering curtains are heavier, letting only a soft glow in. Sheer curtains also provide less privacy, while light-filtering curtains allow for more. Another difference is that sheer curtains come in only three colors (white, off-white, and natural beige.) Meanwhile, medium-weight linen light filtering curtains come in 27. Therefore, the latter is a better choice if there’s a specific color man.

Linen is naturally moisture-wicking and mold resistant. However, we would recommend you have access to some kind of ventilation, or clean your curtains regularly. This will ensure you avoid any mold. Many of our customers buy our curtains for their bathrooms, which has the most moisture out of any room, and are satisfied with their purchase.

Dry cleaning works the best with our curtains. Avoid machine washing or using harsh chemicals.

Generally, light-filtering curtains should go a few inches above the window frame to around a half inch from the floor. This length will ensure that the windows are covered without spilling over the floor. It can depend on the hanging style as well. The float style is ½ inch from the floor, preventing dragging and dust but giving the curtains a clean appearance. The kiss style is when the curtains touch the floor, adding extra style and preventing light from leaking out. Puddle style is when the curtains extend further, creating a puddle effect on the floor to give the room a more luxurious feel. However, this style will require frequent dustings.

We would recommend you hang the curtains 4”-6” inches above the window frame, and be sure they extend around 6”-12” inches wide on each side. A curtain rod will work well for most people. Tracks can also work, especially if your window is curved or if you want a low-maintenance way to open and close your drapes.
