Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Should My Sliding Door Curtains Be?

How long they should be depends on the aesthetic. If you want a cleaner look, make sure these curtains kiss the floor or have a half-inch clearing. Extra inches can add a dramatic effect, but they can be a hassle when they are dragging on the floor. It’s ultimately up to preference!

How Do I Measure Sliding Door Curtains?

It is easy to size curtains for sliding glass doors.

  1. Get the width of your patio door. Multiply that by 1.5 to make the curtains look full.(e.g. A 60” curtain would need 90” width.)
  2. Cut that number in half for each panel size. So, take the 90 from step one, and cut it in half to get 45.

It’s intimidating at first, but if you continue measuring, you’ll discover the formula is quite simple!

Are Custom Patio Door Curtain Sizes Available?

Yes! We make all of our window covers in-house. So, we can make any height or width you need, giving you the most coverage and privacy for a fair price. And unlike many custom orders that take weeks, we can make your curtains in two work days with fast shipping. We also have different price options too, depending on size and needs.

Can I Order One Single Panel Shade for My Sliding Door?

Of course. It will work well if you have space to push the curtain to one side. Just check the stackback distance. That is how much room the curtain takes up when it is pulled back. That said, very long rods often have a middle support bracket. This can make it hard to move one big panel.

Do You Sell Rods or Tracks?

We are working to add rods and tracks to our site. We already cooperate with companies that make rods and tracks. Just send us your sizes, and we will help you find the right track. This way, your window treatments will be perfectly mounted and look gorgeous!

What Type of Mounting System Works Best for Sliding Door Curtains? What Hardware is Required?

No matter the type of curtain, you should use ceiling or wall-mounted traverse tracks.  It’s a lot different than mounting curtains in your bedroom.

To mount, you will need a curtain track, gliders, and brackets or supports. You’ll also need mounting screws, anchors, and end stops. For long spans, we’d recommend connectors. Most mounting hardware you purchase will have a book or other reference you can use to determine the exact installation instructions.

What Curtains Are Best for Privacy Over Sliding Glass Doors?

Blackout or thick linen curtains will keep nosy neighbors from looking inside your home! Choosing a blackout curtain as a patio door curtain will prevent anything from showing, including the sun. Meanwhile, a thick linen product will let some sun in while giving some semblance of privacy.

Should I Use Double Tracks for Curtains for Sliding Glass Doors?

Yes! Double tracks work amazing if you want two layers. For example, you may want a sheer patio door curtain to let in some sun, and a thicker blackout to keep the sun out during hot days, or when you want privacy. Plus, the layered look will make your patio door curtain setup look gorgeous!

Do Regular Curtains Work for a Sliding Door?

They can work for a sliding patio door, but they’re not ideal. Your patio door needs a long, wide panel that works with tracks. A regular patio door curtain will usually end up being too short or narrow for a sliding door.

When Should I Replace My Patio Door Curtain?

Fading, frayed seams, or a reduced light blocking ability for blackout curtains may be a sign it’s time to replace them! Otherwise, most curtains can last a decade if taken care of properly.

Are There Smart Home-Compatible Curtain Tracks?

Every household object seems to have a smart home version, and that includes curtain tracks for sliding glass doors. These motorized curtain tracks can connect to your favorite smart home assistant, making it easy to open and shut through your mobile device. You can even schedule them periodically; for example, programming the tracks to close at night when you want a little privacy!

Are Blinds or Curtains Better for Your Sliding Door?

Which sliding door curtains you should get depends on your budget and needs.

Want a low-maintenance, minimalist option at a lower price? Blinds are a great window treatment option, and they are easy to install. Do you want insulation, soundproofing, and for your sliding door to look pretty? Does the sliding door sit near a bedroom? Pick curtains.

That said, why not both? Some homeowners have found combinations that make their sliding glass doors truly stand out.

How Much Wider Should The Curtain Rod Be Compared to the Door?

Ideally, your rod will continue to extend 8-12 inches past each side. You’ll get full coverage, and your window treatments will look gorgeous doing so.

How High Does the Curtain Rod Need to Be Mounted?

We recommend mounting it about 5-6 inches above the top of the door frame. This will help your shade glide easily without getting caught up in the door.

Do I Need to Drill in Order to Install the Product?

Nope, depending on the product you have purchased. You can purchase adhesive hooks or tension rods that will continue to hold up your window treatments for a long time. But heavier curtains, such as thick blackout curtains, may require drilling.

Do Long Curtain Rods Need Center Support Brackets?

If you want to prevent any sagging, you should purchase a center support bracket if your curtain product is over 60 inches in width.

Do You Offer Thermal or Insulated Curtains?

Of course. Our blackout curtain lineup also includes thermal or insulated curtains, keeping your room quiet and warm during the wintertime. Say bye to expensive heating bills or noisy neighbors.

What is the Best Way to Clean My Door Curtain Product?

For minor stains, spot cleaning works the best. Machine washing also works well, but the gentler the setting, the better. Depending on the product, such as velvet blackout curtains, you may need special dry cleaning.

Can I Iron or Steam My Product?

You can, but be sure to use the lowest heat setting to prevent damage. Blackout curtains should be steamed instead to avoid any damage to the lining.

How Often Should I Wash or Dust My Sliding Curtains?

Every two weeks is good for keeping dust away. Use a light vacuum cleaner, or a lint roll. Deep clean them every 3-6 months, depending on light exposure and air quality.

Will These Curtains Help With Energy Efficiency?

Yes, especially blackout or thermal curtains. In the summer, blackout curtains can stop sunlight from making your room feel toasty. On the other hand, thermal curtains will keep the warmth inside your room during the winter

Can I Layer Sliding Door Curtains With Shades or Blinds?

Yes, especially if you layer a thicker blackout door curtain with a thinner sheer.

What Colors Work Best for These Types of Curtains?

Light colors work well for sunlight reflection, and can make a space have an airy feel to it. Dark colors can control light and give a cozy feeling overall. It honestly depends on your preference, however.
