Frequently Asked Questions

What Is the Weight of Soundproof Curtains?

It depends on the materials and weight. We have linen and velvet sound blocking curtains. These curtains have two layers: a medium or heavyweight linen or velvet front layer, plus, there is the soundproofing total blackout lining with thermal insulation.
Our mediumweight linen soundproof curtains are 590 GSM, our heavyweight linen sound blocking curtains are 720 GSM, and our velvet is 740 GSM.

Do Your Soundproof Curtains Provide Total Blackout?

Yes! For those who want a quieter environment and a darker room, our curtains have you covered. The dense materials can not only block sound and light, but they also have thermal insulation properties. In other words, they’re like soundproofing blankets that keep your home warm during winter.

Is It Possible to Get Samples of the Soundproof Curtains?

We have linen or velvet sample packs with soundproof lining, which our soundproof curtains use. You can get a good idea of how the multiple layers can work together to reduce sound, and get a feel for them, too! Both sample packs include all available colors and different linings. Which Soundproof Curtains Are Better? Linen or Velvet?

Our noise reduction lining is the main science behind our sound curtains. However, velvet can absorb sound slightly better due to being thicker. That being said, the difference is small, so you can still reduce unwanted noise with our linen.

Can Your Acoustic Curtains Reduce Your Energy Bill?

Soundproof curtains can reduce heat and cooling loss that comes from glass, especially if they are poorly sealed or single-pane. One sound-absorbing curtain may not make much of a difference. However, multiple sound curtains on top of energy-saving techniques may help you to see a difference.

What Fabric Is Used in Your Acoustic Curtains?

Our soundproof curtains have two layers: a medium or heavyweight linen or velvet front layer. Then, there is the soundproofing total blackout lining with thermal insulation. Our linen is made from 100% linen, and our velvet comes from 100% polyester. Our soundproof lining is also 100% polyester. Finally, our linen curtains are 150 g/m2 for mediumweight and 280 g/m2 for heavyweight. All these materials are OEKO-TEX certified

What Color Is the Back of Soundproof Curtains?

All our soundproof curtains have a silver-grey backing.

Where Can I Use Acoustic Curtains?

Our curtains provide better noise reduction for any room! For the bedroom, it can reduce traffic sounds that can keep you up. For the nursery, these soundproof curtains will keep your baby sleeping. For a home theater, soundproof curtains can add an extra layer of immersion. And for a home office, sound blocking curtains will help you stay focused. In general, these curtains might be used in any other rooms.

What Kind of Noise Do They Block? Do They Offer Complete Noise Reduction?

Any sharp, external sound waves can be reduced through our curtains. Think traffic or noisy neighbors. They’ll also absorb sound in the room, reducing echo. Loud or low-frequency sounds won’t be reduced entirely. If you want to completely reduce noise, you can combine our curtains with other soundproofing methods.

Do Your Soundproof Curtains Block Traffic Noise?

Our soundproof curtains work well, but not perfectly. It also depends on your windows’ distance from the road, frequency of the traffic (urban vs. suburbs, for example,) and the soundproofing in your room. Traffic is a lower frequency noise, so it’s usually impossible to block everything 100%. However, it can help.

How to Clean Sound Blocking Curtains?

To keep your soundproof curtains clean, use dry cleaning. You can also iron them while damp, though that is not necessary.

How Should Soundproof Curtains Be Installed?

To maximize the effectiveness of reducing incoming noise from outside, your curtains should be installed with care. You should use a heavy-duty steel rod, and mount any brackets directly into the wall studs. Or, use high-weight wall anchors if studs are not available. Using tracks may be a better option. Place your rod 4-8 inches above the window frame, and ensure it extends 6-12 inches past each window side.

If possible, your curtains should reach the floor, and not just block the window. Ensure the curtain panels are wide, and that there are no gaps in the center when closed to avoid any noise or sound entering the room.

Do You Make Custom Soundproof Curtains?

Yes! If you need custom sizing, contact us, and we’d be happy to make custom soundproof curtains for you.

Do I Need a Special Rod?

Do not cheap out on a light rod! Soundproof curtains are heavy. You can also use tracks, which helps to reduce any seals that may bring in extra sound waves or light.

How Much Noise Is Blocked by Sound Absorbing Curtains?

As long as installed properly, sound-absorbing curtains can reduce noise by up to 20 dB. This can’t completely eliminate sound, but it can reduce outside noise that comes from neighbors, traffic, construction sites, etc. To reduce noise levels even further, rugs, furniture, and soundproofing panels can help.

How Do I Prevent Sound Leaks (Sound Escape)?

The best way to reduce sound leaks is to ensure fullness. Be sure that the curtains extend to the floor and beyond the window frame. When drawn, be sure that there is no gap. Use tracks, if possible. Also, look for any cracks or open spaces in the window itself, and seal them.

How Much “Fullness” Is Required?

The more, the merrier. Your soundproof curtains should be 1.5-2.5 times the area they cover. This way, your sound curtains will block as much noise as possible and reduce any sound reflections. Also, multiple layers can help.

Can They Be Used as Room Dividers?

Yes. Soundproof curtains can be hung using tracks. As long as they extend from the floor to the ceiling, these curtains will allow for some, but not complete, privacy.

How Do Our Curtains Compare to Industrial Soundproof Curtains?

Industrial soundproof curtains and sound blankets are designed for businesses. Think industrial soundproof curtains for warehouses, construction, etc.

Meanwhile, our curtains are designed for everyday interior home use. As a result, these curtains combine sound attenuation and aesthetics. Wake up every morning to drapes that not only act as enclosures that dampen any loudness outside, but also add class to your home.

Do I Need Industrial Soundproof Curtains to Keep My Home Quiet?

No. You don’t need industrial soundproof curtains to keep your home quiet and improve your well-being. All you need to do is purchase our drapes to get the same results.
