Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Measure My Windows for Roman Shades?
Measuring for Roman shades is easy. However, it does require some special care. Let’s explain:
- First, get a metal tape measure, pen or pencil, and some paper to mark down measurements. You can also just use the notepad option in your phone.
- Decide if you want a mount inside or outside the window frame. Inside mounts will give your room a clean look, while outside mounts will have more coverage, blocking out the bright sun with more ease. If you want shades with a privacy lining, this will also ensure that you get the most privacy. There is no wrong answer; it’s down to customer preferences and needs.
- From left to right, measure the width. If you want an inside mount, measure the opening at the top, middle, and bottom of your window frame. If your window is uneven, take multiple measurements, then write down the narrowest. If you have an outside mount, you’ll want to measure how much coverage you want the shades to have. Ideally, you’ll want to add 2-3 inches on each side for the fullest coverage.
- The next step of the process is to measure the length from top to bottom. If you want an inside mount, measure the height at the left, middle, and right of the window’s frame, and write the longest measurement. For outside mounts, measure from the desired starting point to end, and add a couple of extra measurements for the best fill.
- Finally, double-check your measurements and look for any obstacles that may interfere with the installation of your shades. Then, visit us and look for the shades that meet those measurements. Don’t see one? You can contact us, and we’ll make some custom shades that will suit your needs.

Do You Offer Cordless Roman Shades?
Yes! Our Roman shades are available in corded or cordless. Corded shades are more affordable and offer that classic look. Meanwhile, cordless shades offer a more polished look and are also ideal if you have pets or young children.
Are Your Roman Shades Room-Darkening or Blackout?
We offer 80% room-darkening shades and full 100% blackout shades. Room-darkening shades can be great for living rooms or bathrooms where you want privacy and less sun, but need some light to come inside your room. Meanwhile, 100% blackout can be great for bedrooms for 3rd shift workers, or for home theater media rooms.
Can Your Roman Shades Be Mounted Inside the Window Frame or on the Wall?
We offer mounts for inside the frame and outside. Inside mounting can give your windows a clean look, while the more traditional outside mounts offer more coverage.
What Fabric Are Your Roman Shades Made From?
Our Roman shades are made from pure linen. Our privacy lining is made from pure cotton, while our thermal and blackout are made from polyester.

What Is the Stack Depth of Your Roman Shades?
The stack depth is around 7-14 inches, depending on the size of Roman shades you have purchased.
Are Roman Shades Better Than Curtains?
Both have their pros and cons. Roman shades offer a cleaner, seamless look and are great if your room has no space. They also can be mounted inside the window. However, curtains can add drama to any room and are more affordable. It is possible to stack both if you want the best of both worlds.
Does Linen Fabric Sag After Repeated Use?
No. However, linen, especially our curtains, may have a more relaxed look after repeated use.
Can I Use Roman Shades in a Kitchen?
Yes! Roman shades are perfect for any kitchen, as they offer a clean look. They are great for a kitchen sink window or for the windows near the dining hall.
What Is Included With My Roman Shades?
We include the shades themselves, a mounting setup, and instructions.
Are Any of Your Roman Shade Fabrics Chemically Treated? If So, With What?
Our shades are not chemically treated. We use natural materials that are not only eco-friendly, but are free from hundreds of harsh chemicals that can be hazardous to one’s health.
Do Roman Shades Block Enough Light for a Nursery?
As long as mounted properly and with proper blackout lining, our Roman shades are ideal for a nursery. Outside mounting can cover more of the window for a fussy baby. It should also be noted that you should select cordless shades for any room where young children may be.
Can You Make Roman Shades to Match My Curtains?
Yes! Our Roman shades come in dozens of colors, so it’s easy to find the best color that matches your curtains.
Will Your Linen Roman Shades Provide Privacy at Night?
It depends on what lining you choose. Privacy or blackout linings will add privacy. However, no lining may create silhouettes. We would recommend no lining for kitchens, sunrooms, or other areas where you don’t need as much privacy.
Do I Need a Lining?
It depends on your needs. Privacy linings can make it so that nosy neighbors can’t see what you’re doing. Blackout linings will keep the room dark. Thermal linings will keep your room cool during summer, and vice versa.
Can I Combine Roman Shades With Side Curtains?
Yes! Side curtains can look amazing for the family room windows. That being said, you should be mindful of the distance between your side curtain and Roman curtain rod. Allow 3-4 inches of space between rods, and make the curtain rod 4-6 inches wider than the window frame.
Will the Roman Shade Cover the Window Frame?
Yes. However, you need to decide which style you will choose. Inside mounts fit inside the frame, while outside mounts go outside. Either way, you will need to properly measure the window width and then order according to that size. You’ll need to measure from where you want the shade’s top to sit, then measure to the desired endpoint. When measuring, be mindful that the cornice depth will be 2 inches, which you should position above the window frame, then extend the shade 3 inches below the window frame.
We should also remind you that we have custom sizing available for those who have unconventional window frames. Simply contact us, and we would be happy to make the shades according to your needs.
What Is the Delivery Time for Blackout Roman Shades?
Our Roman shades will ship between 8-10 business days, with delivery taking 5-7. In other words, it will take around 2-3 weeks for you to receive your product the moment you order it. However, this time can be more or less depending on several factors, including holidays, off-seasons, and more.
Can Roman Shades Be Layered With Blackout Curtains for Complete Darkness?
Yes, it is possible to layer these two, creating no light and filtered light depending on your needs. However, if you prefer a more minimalistic approach, we do sell Roman shades with blackout lining, letting you bring in or completely block sunlight with ease.
Can Roman Shades Be Used on French Doors?
Roman shades can be a timeless and elegant way to enhance your French doors. One reason is that they will fit over the glass perfectly and not interfere with any other parts of the French door. In other words, opening and shutting your door won’t be a problem.
Are Roman Shades Noisy When Raised or Lowered?
Roman shades are one of the quietest window treatments available, meaning they are wonderful if you have a sleeping pet, child, or spouse in your home. One reason for this is that Roman shades, particularly ours, are made from soft materials that won’t make a peep when closed or opened.
Can I Get Roman Shades in Linen, Velvet, or Other Premium Fabrics?
Currently, our Roman shades are available in linen and velvet per your request.
Does Linen Hold Pleats Well?
For Roman blindes, linen will hold pleats very well. However, the naturalness of the linen will mean that your shades will look more relaxed than rigid. Regardless, most people believe that pure linen is the best material.
Should I Mount My Roman Shades Inside or Outside the Window Frame for the Cleanest Look?
If you want the cleanest look, inside mounting is ideal. This is because the Roman shades can fit perfectly inside while still allowing for total light control. That being said, you may need an outside mount if you have an uneven window frame.
Are Your Roman Shades Suitable for Homes With Pets or Children?
Yes! However, if you have a dog that likes eating things, or a child under 4, selecting cordless may be the way to go. Going cordless may cost a little more, but it will prevent little hands and paws from touching them, possibly damaging the shades or posing a hazard to the pet or child.
Is a Cordless Option Worth the Extra Cost?
In general, a cordless setup is ideal. This is because they remove the hassle of tangled cords and prevent young children or pets from strangulation. That being said, it is ultimately up to the consumer. If you don’t have kids or pets, and you can’t afford the price, corded may not be a bad choice.
