Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Clean Your Room Darkening or Blackout Roman Shades?
To clean our shades, use dry cleaning only. Avoid washing them in a machine, or getting them wet.
How Do I Measure Windows for Outside-Mount Roman Shades?
Measuring outside mount shades is a little different from inside mount shades. You’ll want to measure the width and height of your desired coverage, and add 2-3 inches in width on each side. For height, add 2-4 inches. Because these shades are designed to block light, be sure that the measurements will cover the window opening completely.
Do You Offer Custom-Sized Outside-Mount Roman Shades?
Yes, we offer custom inside or outside mount Roman shades. Simply contact us with your ideal measurements, and we’ll get to work.
What Fabric Are They Made From?
Both inside and outside mount shades are made from 100% flax linen, adding natural beauty to your interior decor. You can also choose lining, with cotton or polyester blackout linings available.
What Is the Stack Depth?
These shades stack to 11 inches in height. If you want to clear the window, we would recommend installing the cornice 11 inches above the top of the window frame. For a Roman 78 in shade with thermal lining, the stack depth is about 5 inches.
What Styles of Outside-Mount Roman Shades Do You Have?
We offer classic, which comes in various linings or unlined. We also have relaxed, which can come in flanges or without.
Do You Offer Cordless Roman Shades?
Currently, we do not offer cordless blinds. However, we do offer brackets to keep a young child’s hands away from the cord.
What Is the Difference Between Inside-Mount Roman Shades and Outside-Mount Roman Shades?
When it comes to the difference between inside or outside mount shades, it’s in the name. Inside is mounted in the window only, not exceeding the window frame. Meanwhile, outside mount surpasses the frame.
When Should I Choose Outside-Mount Roman Shades Instead of Inside-Mount?
Both inside and outside mount offer advantages. In this case, you would choose outside mount for better light control in rooms that require darkness or maximum privacy (media rooms, bedroom, powder room.) Because these shades will have more coverage, less light will come in. Meanwhile, inside mount shades offer a cleaner look and allow for some light in rooms that could need it (living room, dining room, etc.)
How Much Wider and Taller Should Outside-Mount Roman Shades Be Than My Window?
Generally, you’ll want to add up to 3 inches each side in window width, and 4 inches in height. Doing this will help to maximize your shades’ light-filtering abilities.
Will Outside-Mount Roman Shades Darken the Room Better Than Inside-Mount?
Generally, outside-mount is better for light control as more of the window is covered. If you like the cleanness of the inside-mount, you may want to pair these shades with curtains.
Can I Layer Outside-Mount Roman Shades With Curtains?
Yes, you can. Layering curtains with blinds can help to reduce incoming light further, or let in some natural light during the day. Since these are outside-mount shades, be sure to measure your curtains carefully before ordering.
Can You Make Curtains to Match Roman Shades?
Yes! We have various room darkening and light filtering curtains available, many of which match your preferred Roman shades color. Look at our curtain selection, and find the perfect pair for your shades.
