What Is the Difference Between Lightweight, Mediumweight and Heavyweight Linen Fabric?

The biggest differences include weight and breathability. Lightweight fabrics are perfect in several cases. For example, if you want drapes that let in light. Mediumweight is the perfect balance and is used in common curtains, bedding, and clothing. Meanwhile, heavyweight drapes are ideal if you want to darken your room and add the most elegance to your window. There is also a difference in texture. For example, heavyweight has more of a burlap feeling.

What Is the Weight (GSM) of Your Linen Fabric?

It depends on the thickness you have ordered. For example, sheer linen is 90 gsm, our mediumweight 150, and our heavyweight is 280. If you’re unsure about the weight of the fabric you are purchasing, contact us. We would love to help answer any questions before the product is sold.

How Do I Choose the Right Weight of Linen for My Project?

It depends on your desired goal. If you want your curtains to look airy, lightweight is ideal. Heavyweight curtains are perfect to add fullness and authority to any house. Finally, mediumweight curtains provide the perfect balance. It can also be used for bedding, clothing (shirts, skirts, dresses, pants etc,) tablecloths, sofa covers, and creative projects.

Is Your Linen Fabric Prewashed?

Our store does not prewash fabric. This is because we sell 100% pure, OEKO-certified linen. If you want your fabric prewashed, contact our shop and we’d be happy to wash it before shipping.

How Is Linen Fabric by the Yard Sold, and What Is the Usable Width? Can I Get it for a Lower Price?

Linen is usually sold in 36-inch (1 yard) increments. Ours come in 52” and 106” increments. If this isn’t enough, we offer custom sizes so you can get the yard measurement you need.

Do You Offer Pure (100%) Linen and Linen Blends?

We sell 100% linen that’s not blended with materials such as cotton or rayon. 

Is Your Linen a Good Choice for Warm and Humid Climates?

Yes for both. Linen is hypoallergenic and is gentle to the touch, making it perfect for the most sensitive skin, including that of infants.

How Should I Wash and Care for Linen Fabric?

With our linen items listed, we always recommend dry cleaning it. Clean it regularly to ensure longevity and to remove any allergens. Some bedding items can be washed, but only in cool water and with low or no heat. In these cases, dry cleaning is preferred.

Does Linen Shrink, and Should I Prewash It?

This fabric can shrink slightly, so be sure to prewash before you use it. If you need to, we can prewash linen for you. To avoid shrinkage, always follow the cleaning instructions, as natural fiber such as linen can require special care. For drapes, you will want to dry clean them. For garments or bedding, you’ll want to cold wash them and line or low heat dry them.
