We use only OEKO-TEX certified linen and velvet fabrics for our blackout curtains. Even our blackout, soundproof and noise reduction polyester lining is OEKO-TEX certified as well.
What is the Difference Between Blackout and Thermal Insulated Lining Content?
First, we’ll look at a 100% blackout lining cloth with 80% light-blocking polyester backing and 20% acrylic. This curtain is mainly used for total blocking of natural light.
100% Polyester lining with thermal/soundproof lining is a thick and heavy fabric, usually weighing 440 g/m2. It is used to block out the sun and keep a living room or bedroom warm during winter and keep heat outside during the hot season. These true blackout curtains will keep it dark even in peak bright light!
Partial 50% Blackout with 100% polyester is a good middle ground. Dark, with a little light left in. At 280 g/m2, it’s not too heavy but not light, either.
What’s the Difference Between 100 Blackout and Soundproof Linings?
100% total blackout drapes block out all light and provide full room darkening. Meanwhile, soundproof curtains can also do this, together with dampening unwanted noises and sounds. All soundproof curtains will have a 100% blackout effect, but simple total linen blackout curtains don’t have the sound-dampening features.
What is the Difference Between Medium and Heavyweight Linen?
Medium-weight is around 150 gsm and is great if you want relaxed, yet weighty, curtains. Meanwhile, heavyweight curtains are around 280 gsm and have a burlap soft woven texture that can give your home a rustic look. Heavy-weight fabric is also less see-through. Both of them might be used in your bedroom or living room.
Do Light-Blocking Curtains Make a Room Hotter or Cooler?
Our blackout-only or room-darkening curtains can keep your room a little bit cooler during the summer by blocking light! On the other hand, when your heater is running during a blizzard, linen blackout-only drapes can help a little to keep heat from escaping, especially for older buildings. But if you are looking for a better solution, you should get our thick curtains with thermal insulation properties. At 3HLinen, we make our elegant curtains by adding special thermal lining material that not only totally blocks the sun light, but also has a 7 times higher thermal insulation level compared to standard curtains. So if you need you curtains to help in regulating temperature in your house, our thermal thick curtains will be the best choice for you.
How Do You Keep Blackout Curtains Nice and Clean?
The best way to keep them clean while making them look good as new is to follow our care instructions. Our blackout curtain panels are not machine washable. And hand wash is not the best variant, as well. Instead, dry-clean them and air-dry if possible. If wrinkled, lightly iron on low heat, preferably damp. Periodic cleaning will keep these curtains as good as new.
Are the Blackout Curtains Good for a Nursery or Kids’ Room?
Yes! Our blackout curtains can also give your little ones privacy and good sleep. They also keep a child’s room distraction-free. It is worth mentioning that we make our curtains only from OEKO-TEX certified fabrics, so no harmful substances in your child’s room.
Do Your Blackout Curtains Bring Total Darkness to a Room?
Getting your living room or bedroom totally dark can be challenging due to the gaps and edges around a window. Usually, some light will peak from these points, but it shouldn’t be enough to wake you up.
It also depends on the type of curtains and the way you hang them. Are you using back tabs, top tabs, or grommets? The light may go through the space created when you hang them via the rods.
Length is also important. If the curtains are too short in length or width, you may see more light filter in. For best results, be sure your curtains are longer and wider than your windows, are hung on the ceiling tracks, and have no spaces between the drape, the wall, and the track.
The curtain heading style will affect how much light enters the room, with some styles creating more gaps or openings. So choose wisely depending on how much light you want in the room.
Are Blackout Curtains Only Available in Dark Colors?
Nope! There is a lot of information saying that darker curtains have a better light-blocking level. But indeed, everything depends on the material that curtains are made from, but not its color. At 3HLinen, we have both white and black curtains that totally block the light in the same way.
What Are the Disadvantages of Blackout Curtains?
Blackout curtains can hang heavier than other types of curtains. If you can’t go outside often, blackout curtains can stop natural vitamin D from reaching your skin. If you’re trying to regulate your sleep cycles, total blackout curtains may not allow enough sunlight in, which may cause you to wake up later. Luckily, our quality curtains can be opened to let the light flow, and some allow certain amounts of light.
Will Outside Noise Be Reduced When I Use Blackout Curtains?
Yes! But you have to choose blackout curtain panels with a sound-dampening feature. Our soundproof blackout curtains can help to quiet outside traffic and noisy neighbors. It’s not a total sound barrier; we recommend combining it with other soundproofing measures, such as soundproof windows or film. But it can help keep the room quiet when you’re trying to get some rest.
Are Your Curtains Good for Those With Allergies?
Since we use only OEKO-TEX certified fabrics our curtains are hypoallergenic. But, despite this, you still need to keep your curtains clean, as they can trap allergens in their fibers, causing allergy issues.
Are Your Curtains Good for Home Theatres?
Definitely. You can use our linen blackout drapes or velvet blackout drapes if you need to just block the light and reduce glare on your TV. But if you want to go even further, you can get our thick soundproof curtain panels that not only bring darkness to the cinema room but also improve the acoustic environment. And don’t forget that the efficiency of curtain panels in terms of room darkening and noise reduction also depends on the way how you install them. To achieve complete darkness, you need to hang panels that will be much wider and longer than the window frame and which will reach the floor. As well, heading type can make an impact. Both a rod pocket and pleated headings have the least space for sunlight to go through between the panel and the ceiling or rod or track.
Do These Curtains Work Well for Offices?
Of course. The curtains can regulate your office’s temperature to keep you warm or cool. They give you privacy from prying eyes. And keep pesky glare off your computer monitor. For best results, you can use a partial blackout curtain to allow some sunlight inside your office space.
